Condition:

The canvas is lined. Under a slightly yellow varnish there is a handsome sitter that reads well, especially on the details to his face and hair. Craquelure with some small spots of loss, like the two dots on the black shirt, and two other dots on the top left quadrant, is visible. A thin scratch that is barely visible is on the sitter's black shirt at center right, next to his shoulder runs vertically for less than 4 in. A small circle, which appears to be an old repair is at bottom left corner. Inspection under UV shows barely any retouching, aside from some possibly small spots scattered on the black shirt and background. The aforementioned losses also appear to have been retouched in small spots, like on the background at center far left, as well as a pindot on the sitter's shirt at center right before his arm.
